Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Gratitude is a daily voice journaling app developed by Gratitude Journal, operating under the name Gratitude Journal. The app is available on the Apple App Store.

2. What information we collect

Information you provide directly

• Email address — used to create and secure your account
• First name — used to personalise your experience
• Journal entries — the answers you speak or type during journaling sessions
• Mood ratings — the before and after mood you select each session
• Goal preference — which journaling goal you selected during onboarding (stress, gratitude, clarity, or growth)

Information collected automatically

• Session timestamps — when you journal, used to calculate streaks and weekly summaries
• App usage preferences — settings like notification time and voice narration, stored locally on your device

Information we do NOT collect

• We do not store audio recordings. Voice input is transcribed on your device using Apple's Speech Recognition framework and only the text is saved.
• We do not collect location data
• We do not collect device identifiers or advertising IDs
• We do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Gratitude app:

• To create and manage your account
• To store and sync your journal entries across devices
• To calculate your journaling streak and statistics
• To generate your weekly reflection summary
• To personalise your question prompts based on your chosen goal
• To send you daily reminder notifications (only if you enable them)

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than operating the app.

4. How we store and protect your data

Your journal entries are stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database platform with encryption at rest and in transit. All data is transmitted over HTTPS.

Your account is protected by password authentication. We strongly recommend using a strong, unique password.

Preferences such as notification time and voice settings are stored locally on your device using browser localStorage and are not transmitted to our servers.

5. Third-party services

We use a small number of third-party services to operate the app:

• Supabase — database and authentication provider. Your entries and account data are stored on Supabase servers. Supabase Privacy Policy
• Apple Speech Recognition — used on-device to transcribe your voice input. No audio is sent to our servers. Apple Privacy Policy
• Apple Push Notifications — used to deliver your daily reminder notifications through Apple's notification infrastructure.

We do not use Facebook, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or any advertising or analytics platforms.

6. Your rights and choices

Access and portability

You can view all of your journal entries at any time within the app. If you would like an export of your data, contact us at gratitudejournaling101@gmail.com and we will provide it within 30 days.

Deletion

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Danger zone → Delete my account within the app. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

Notifications

You can enable or disable daily reminder notifications at any time from the Settings page within the app, or from your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → Gratitude.

Microphone and speech recognition

The app requests microphone and speech recognition permissions to enable voice journaling. You can revoke these permissions at any time from iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone / Speech Recognition. The app will continue to work with text input if permissions are revoked.

7. Children's privacy

Gratitude is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Data retention

We retain your journal entries and account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

Locally stored preferences (notification time, voice settings) are stored on your device and are removed when you uninstall the app.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email.

Your continued use of Gratitude after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
